About me
“A confident and fluent pianist with an authoritative interpretative standpoint”

Frances Wilson is a London-based pianist, teacher, writer and blogger on music and pianism as The Cross-Eyed Pianist. In addition to running a popular private piano teaching practice, Frances is a keen concert-goer and writes music reviews for international concert and opera listings site Bachtrack.com and for US-based culture and arts site Culturevulture.net.

A regular columnist for Pianist magazine’s online content, Frances also contributes guest posts to other classical music websites around the world.

She is a passionate advocate of amateur pianism and co-hosts, with Lorraine Liyanage, the London Piano Meetup Group, which organises performance and social events for adult amateur pianists in and around London. Another recent initiative is the South London Concert Series, an innovative concert series which promotes young and emerging professional pianists and offers amateur musicians the opportunity to perform in the same formal concert setting.

Frances holds a Licentiate Diploma (Distinction) in Piano Performance from Trinity College of Music, London, and studies privately with Penelope Roskell, Professor of Piano & Piano Pedagogy at Trinity-Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. Frances has also attended masterclasses with Murray McLachlan, Carlo Grante and Norma Fisher, and has taken private tuition from Alan Fraser, Graham Fitch and James Lisney.

'Divine Fire' - the story of Fryderyk Chopin & George Sand

The story of composer Fryderyk Chopin and writer George Sand is one of the most compelling, romantic and passionate, a nine-year love affair which continues to fascinate and grip the imagination. It is a story of creative union and artistic inspiration, of a relationship severed by ugly jealousy and recrimination, and one which ended tragically with the untimely death of Chopin…
