Lyric coloratura soprano Gabriela Di Laccio was born in Brazil and shares both Italian and Brazilian nationalities.
She began her singing career under the guidance of the Brazilian soprano Neyde Thomas and graduated with Distinction from the University of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná – Brazil.
Before moving to the UK she was a member of the Camerata of Curitiba – Opera and Concert touring group with whom she performed for many years as a soloist. In 2001, Gabriela was the winner of the Araucaria Foundation Scholarship Award, enabling her to choose to further her studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where she gained Post Graduate Diplomas (PGDip) in Performance-Opera and as an Early Music Specialist.
Since her arrival in the UK , Gabriela has won her several competitions including the Peter Pears Prize and Richard III Prize for concert singers.
Operatic roles include Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), Gilda (Rigoletto), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le Nozze de Figaro), Semele (Handel), Musetta (La Boheme) among others.
Gabriela is also an experienced and accomplished concert artist. She performs regularly as a solo recitalist and as a member of various chamber groups covering a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary. As a soloist, her work has included Bach’s B Minor Mass, St. John’s Passion and St. Mathew’s Passion, Handel’s Messiah and Dixit Dominus, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate and Haydn’s Creation, among many others.
In concerts, Gabriela has appeared at the Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square and Purcell Room among others. As a performer of the baroque repertoire she has sung with the Amaryllis Consort, Il Festino, Concerto Instrumentale, Di Profundis, Baroque Orchestra of Mercosur and Baroque Ensemble Florilegium. Baroque Opera Productions include Platée by Rameau at the Megaron Opera House/ Athens , Orfeo by Monteverdi and Dido and Aeneas by Purcell with the English Bach Festival in London.
Gabriela Di Laccio has also established an important reputation performing Latin American Classical repertoire, including works by Villa-Lobos, Carlos Gomes, Camargo Guarnieri, Guastavino, and Lorca among others in several solo concerts in the UK and abroad.
She is also the fouder member of Baroque Ensemble Il Festino and together with outstanding and talented musicians who have gained their reputation in the Early Music Scene, they perform the repertoire composed by established baroque figures and also explore less well-known Spanish and Latin American baroque composers.
